Very pleasing bit of work there, Brancho. Masur Birch is beautiful wood. What did you use to finish the handle? Also, does it take more pressure, compared with veg tan, to emboss the design on the half tanned leather?

That knife is something to be proud of.:)

Thanks he has seen pictures but not held the knife.
Redandshane thanks for the comment

Jojo thanks for the comments.

The hanlde was soaked in danis oil for a couple of hours any longer may have darkened the colour based previous experience. Then I applied a coat of carnuba wax with a polishing wheel. The Bufflalo horn was taken down to 1200 and polished with a mop and some polish

Needs the same pressure really.
The design is not as deep as it would be on 3mm veg tan because this is 2.5 mm and I had burnished the area before stamping it which was a mistake. Half tanned leather is very stif when dry but mould and takes a pattern well when wet.

Very nice Alf, love the Birch handle very nice piece of wood, and your sheath is spot on.

All the best.

That's the good thing about knifemaking; you don't really need _that much_ material, so you can go for something really special like the birch. I always promise myself that if I ever get super rich, I'm going to make a kitchen out of curly birch. Imagine waking up and enjoying the morning sun streaming through on those colours as you wait for the toast to pop.

Simon I am glad you like it

Stanley glad you like the knife

Is there anything in particular you dont like about the sheath ie the style or do you feel it dosent flow right. BTW your comments are welcome.

Hi alf its the style and the shape just don't look like it will stand up to that superb knife. is there a plastic sheath in side the leather sheath. it looks like the knife blade will work its way through the leather.you have made other top quilty sheathes that would suit that knife better. still that my opinion if your happy with it that's all that count cheers:You_Rock_ stanley

Thanks for the comments
The sheath has no liner and due to the construction and leather type use (half tanned leather has a rawhide core) it does not need one the leather is ver very stiff. Unlike other sheaths though you can put another knife in it even temporarily as it may cut the sheath

Look HERE to see how it was made DKW did a great tutorial and I have added some bits. The Scandinavians trust this style so do I:D

Hi alf had a look i see what you mean good bit off information nice workmanship i would say your sheaths or far more Superior than mine keep up the good work .Ive got to make one of those scandinavian sheaths for the stick tang im nearly finished making you can pull mine to bits :swordfigh cheers stanley. PS did your Mora ever tern up i was sierras about that offer of a replacement .

Stanley
Good to see you understand a bit more about the style. I look forward to seeing your take on a scandi sheath and if you want any specific pointers ask away and I will help if I can but I am no expert.

What was teh offer about the Mora (did I say my Scouts seemed to have misplaced one which they did) I have either missed it or forgotten.
