Music around the campfire

Music at camp is great so long as you like the music being played and and its not forced on you by the numpties camping twenty metres away from you.
Not when I'm hiking or backpacking but here's some pics from some music around a fire in my back yard last Sat:
An old friend of mine is a serious metal musician/outdoorsman. When the cassette tapes started to slur and the 16 D-cells on the old boom-box would go dead, he would play his 12 string acoustic. We were in awe:notworthy.
Live music around a campfire is something I really enjoy. I'm deaf in one ear and the other doesn't hear so well but I'll sing and as of this morning I'm learning to play the spoons
. I may be done with sporks.I picked up a jaw harp while on a trip once, I still can't play it, think I'd crack a tooth. I love the sound though. This guy really is amazing:

Quickest way to ruin the outdoors for me is to have have the beautiful sounds of owls and nightjars ruined by some talentless nerk with one hand clamped to their ear.
If out and about I prefer the sounds of nature to the sounds of man.

Just don't enjoy having other peoples musical tastes (and usually total lack of ability) imposed on me. Rather like having someone declaim poetry for hours at a time.

I'm with you there. We learned at an early age that what we thought was the middle of nowhere; well, if it's in earshot range it's in gunshot range. I love the sounds of nature but honestly if I'm out for an extended time, always by myself, I crave music.
A bonfire and loud music is to me, a party. A few close friends playing home-made instruments around a fire, telling a couple of stories before turning in; I can really appreciate.
I love my ipod but only tend to listen when I'm alone, during the day and when battling a headwind. I can only take so much of that "whooshing" sound.
I know I'm a talentless near-deaf nerk (nerk, had to look that one up). I do consider myself to be very conscientious of others in the wilds and in town. It is very uncool to have to walk into some "partier's camp" in the middle of the night and ask then to keep it down. I've had to do it and it makes me a little nervous. I don't like to be the jerk but quiet time is quiet time.
If I'm ever over that way, I promise not to impose

well said that man. i've had many evenings round campfires ruined by some berk who can sort of play guitar messing up already crap songs. makes me cringe just thinking about it.
How come that all peoples who live traditional lifestyles, Australian aborigines, Kalahari Bushmen and the like, from the frozen ice to the steaming jungles make music when out and about ?
It's part of being human. Our voices and our music have as much a belonging in the woodlands of our homelands as birdsong.
Music enriches our socialising, and even a solitary wander finds many whistling just for the fun of it
Different folks, different appeals.
Sorry BR but if you camp near mine, I really hope there'll be music for at least part of the evening

I'm firm believer in the fact that most things can be improved by doing them outdoors. This includes making music. :vio:
Each to their own - it'll be a boring world when we all agree. For me, I prefer it quiet, probably the reason why I generally prefer being out with small numbers of like minded friends rather than large gatherings. So long as it isn't imposed on others who prefer a bit of peace - do what you like
tend to go with `no tinned music` and what we get is out of the blue and unorganised, a bit of a sing song and only from one or 2 that can sing, oldies mainly but along the lines of ` trailers for sale or rent` and the Sharpe theme song, `over the hills and far away`.

bothie steps mandolin or ukele usually playing black flag or the amebix....and folk stuff i love hearing people play even badly as long as its not oasis spontaneous sessions work well tothe mmore playing the better
