Well, the winter months have one thing going for them when it's too cold and damp to hang my hammock out in the woods, and that is to catch up on blade projects.

These are axes and blades that I got from Wayland's friend in Norway.
I've been finishing them off lately.

I just hafted the axes last weekend and I completed the knives a few weeks ago.

The axes are beauties and are perfectly balanced. Here's a couple of close ups of the blades.

The bearded axe is Wayland's and I'll be delivering it at the full member's meet.

Here's a close up of the knife blades.

The smaller utility knife isn't finished yet. I still have work to do on the handle. The handle on the larger one is curly birch and the handle on the smaller one is yew that I had left over from a bow.

Fantastic work there! Now damascus knives are fairly plentiful. Not ten a penny but around. As for the damascus axes though.....err....wow! They are truly beautiful!

Wayland...if you find yourself short on funds ever or if Eric wants to go into the commercial market......just shout (no seriously, shout...love them both)

..no seriously............ :sad6: I think its a one sided love affair....... :sad6:

Unfortunately the maker of those beautiful axe heads died last year and I decided to keep one of the axe heads as a lasting memory of a good friend.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait for my funeral before you'll get a hold of mine.

Wayland,

My apologies, I had no intention of trivialising your loss. I genuinely thought that the bearded axe head was the most beautiful that I had ever seen and didn't realise the master who made it had moved on.

Your friend was an artist of magnificent quality and theres no way I would part you from his work even after your funeral! I'll try and think before I speak in future

Brilliant work Mr Methven.

What kind of wood did you use for the hafts?

They (hafts) seem to have a very great looking finish or rather un-finish appearance, how did you get such an effect?

Eric are these the ones you droolled over at the Northern meet (lakes 2005).
If so I,m proud to say I,ve had a feel of them before you got to work on them,
Brilliant end product, you've did them justice.
To the maker my mind floats. Stefan :beerchug:

Wow! Great work, but I have to ask, what's on the little knife? It looks as if the last bit has been added on (kinda' a zig-zag seam).

As for the ax's, very nice! ( no drool emoticon?)

Cheers

The zig zag is just pencil marks where I intend to do a bit of carving. I was going to go for an eagle's head and the zig zag lines will be the feathers around the neck area.
