Monoculars/binoculars ?

Im looking to get a small monocular or small binoculars for the spring summer for general useage.

i know nothin about the 8x32, 6x50 etc i dont know what they numbers mean, hence me having no idea what to look for.

and at less than a tenner i was wondering if they were worth the money.

I have a monocular very similar to this one, and it isn't half bad. The 8x32 number, or variations of, have to do with magnification and the size of the front lense I believe. The larger the second number, the more light is allowed in so better for low light conditions such as approaching dusk and early morning. The first number, your magnification, doesn't want to be too high or else you cannot keep the image still. The higher the magnification then the smallest movement is also magnified. 8 or ten would probably be ideal.

Certainly, the only downside to them is that you have to fiddle with the angle of the thing otherwise the world looks a bit tilted! Not a problem though, it's just a simple case of changing the angle, but I think I'd prefer a straight mono where you just need to adjust the focus.

They don't come with a lanyard, but you can make one very easily. I got mine for free as a bloke was chucking it out because it didn't work properly. The prism inside had come loose, so I glued it back in place with a hot glue gun, it took seconds. Whilst I had the cover off, I bent a piece of thin wire over and heated the two ends and melted them through the casing. I bent the two ends so that they laid flush with the inside of the casing. A dab of hot glue to seal it up, fit the cover back to the monocular and you are left with a small metal loop sticking out. Attatch your lanyard to that to sling it round your neck.
