I decided to fit a zip to my army Bivi bag.
Longest zip i could get locally was 30" long and when checked against the bag I found it came to the seam that runs across the bag. I then carefully cut down seam to this point (the seams are taped so no need to edge the cut).
I borrowed my Mum's sewing machine and after much deliberation fitted the zip so that it had it's own flap made by the material already there. The zip is fitted so it can be zipped up from inside and I've fitted a Velcro strap at the top to stop it pulling open.
I also replaced the drawstring around the hood with elastic cord and toggles.
Next job is to make a larger flap to cover the zip with some more Velcro and tape the new seams (found Gortex seam tape on ebay).
I was also thinking about making a larger hood/hooped canopy later on but that might have to wait until MK2.
