I'll not put my name on the list as it's only a maybe but all being well I'll be there. What's the rules regarding fires in your little "corner of the wood"? Would be happier with a little 'un near me for warmth and cooking.

So long as fire isn't actually on the ground, it's ok. they have half barrels you can use or in my case I use a Woodland Edge firebox.

I noticed in the woods there was a couple of raised platforms for fires, though they look like they havent been in use for a long time. how far out are we allowed to camp in middlewood? I wouldnt mind having my own little fire either. If needs be though, Im sure I can rig one of the ground some way or other.

I am looking forward to seeing the old and new faces again.
Swapped shifts at work so I will be there for sure Friday night, just not sure how early yet.

I have my wool blanket coat to show off (as featured in a certain mag) and a new poncho liner I have just finished too, but it is a poncho liner with a difference............ NO!, you will have to wait and see.

Avery practical and "adaptable" item if I do say so myself.

But is it stopping you from going to Middlewood? Technically I could go (although I'm not sure the other passengers would appreciate the smell of woodsmoke!), but it turns 6 days away from family into 8.

same boat as you, i could go but it depnds if the job does not overun and if i can get from cambridge to middlewood and then getting back (not to mention the logistics of my kit too)

Was only asking fella, i.e. if the ground were peat, I'd be even more careful - I'd hate to be remembered as being the one that set it alight, even if it was simply down to a burning stick falling out of a hobo (no idea how easily it lights, but I know it's a p.i.t.a to put out)

Hello all, this is my first post on the forum but i've been dabling in for a while. Just wondered if you have room for a little one?

I've been in to the wood - fire - pottering round the woods - learning stuff since i was 15 now. I'm 33 and a tree surgeon so never really gave it up.

Just thought it would be great to meet some new people and learn some new stuff.

What kind of stuff do you get up to during the day, i also have some pretty good sloe/damson gin/vodka that is last years crop that is ready if that is one thing that gets sampled round the fire at night?

If it is possible to come, what kind of kit do i need? Basha - sleeping - cooking eating kit i assume?

Don't think that there will be a problem with you coming along. Most of us sleep in hammocks/bivvy bags/tipis/butlers tents....you get the idea!

Unless the price has gone up it's £4 pppn in fees.

There are toilets there, taps dotted around the place and plent of places to pitch camp.

Bring your food & grog with you and you'll probably find people wandering around checking out your camp as well. As for "what do you do", there are normally impromptue courses being run by people so difficult to say really (unless specific things have already been mentioned in this thread).

Oh, don't forget to bring a camp chair for the evenings around the fire.

If I make it, this will be my second.

I must admit, being very shy for my age, I was a bit worried about what happens and when. I introduced myself to a couple of people when I arrived, sorted my hammock out and got a fire going (different site), had something to eat and generally kept myself to myself - it was dark so seemed pointless introducing myself to anyone, I think I managed a bit of a chat with everyone the following day then went home - I was soaked.

From that, I'd say - do pretty much what you want, everyone seems friendly enough to welcome you in if you want to get stuck in.

Or, if like me you're happier minding your own business most of the time - people don't seem bothered by that either.

Without wanting to tell you to suck eggs, what have you got planned to sleep in? I was happy in december in my hammock, tarp and BIG ex army sleeping bag with ex army sleeping roll under me. And I'm pretty sure I'd be ok down to about -8to-12c But people on here will no doubt be able to say whether you'll be warm enough or not (assuming you want the advise).

Every kind of sleeping arangment is welcome floor or tree dwelling, tent tipis ect is a great meet,

Sleeping arrangents have options. Tipi, tent, van, Hammock, Basha. Think the basha is in order as its takes 20 seconds to put up and and i like to wake up to seeing the weather knowing i'm warm and cosy in my bag. Might put the bivi bag in to in case of Lancashire rain!

Are Swedish fires aloud Mr Organiser? Just asking as i have a few made up. What about wood arrangents at the site?
