I am not sure when you can really say that you have made a knife, do you have to have forged your own blade, or does cutting and filing count?

Anyway I took a hacksaw to an old and rusty carbon steel kitchen knife yesterday evening and then removed the scales. At the moment, with a bit of cleaning and some filing, it is beginning to look like a blade again. I have made a very rough handle rather than put scales on and the end product although it will not be very aesthetic it will at least be functional, with a 2 1/4 blade and a more grippable handle, it will make a nice whittler.

Nice way to start. I brought some kitchen knife from a supermarket and removed the plastic handle and put wooden ones on for practice . Still using them in the kitchen.
