I was playing with this the other day. A 3"x2" fresnel lens lit it right up.

Char cloth is so good it is almost cheating. I was teaching my science class the other day about refraction and lenses and had them all in the playground with 50mm diameter lenses and charcloth. With virtually no experience the kids were able to light the char cloth in seconds. Some (slightly naughty) boys got a bit carried away and lit a fire that I had to come and stamp out. Good fun though.

For demonstration purposes, cool science, bushcraft soldering, instant fire on many materials, try an 8.5"x11" "Full Page Magnifier" Fresnel lens. Welding googles required.
