Sadly I suspect that Mick will make a better living welding!

I fear few if any knifemakers will ever get rich or even make a good living at it - its another area where craftsmanship doesn't get the recognition it deserves (or the hourly rate)

Still - good luck to Mick in whatever he decides to do next

The irony could be that now Mick isn't producing that the price on his gear already in circulation goes up thereby making the economics of knife production viable at some point in the future  :D

Didn't realise you blokes cared
Can't believe the support and well wishing I have had very nice of you all:)

Basically apart from the fact knife making isn't a good way of earning a living, I have a bad shoulder and the surgeon say's I need an operation but to get the full picture I need another scan in March which will tell him exactly what needs doing in the meantime I have been seeing an Osteopath and he has improved the movement and relieved it, quite well
So really it's down to when I have the scan, but I'm not going back to welding I don't know what I will do, I have never been out of work or on the sick before and I'm self employed and I'm nearlly 61 so I'm not worried, I have made some enquiries about how it works and they seemed helpful:(
So if I have the op I won't be able to work so I'm going to pack up full time in March anyway but at some time I will make some knives and put the odd one on Ebay, because I still have all my gear but it won't be such a worry of getting the next few bob in to make ends meet and all that, so at the moment I'm just finishing my orders thats nearlly done so I will see and again I will make some blades and knives but not on a big scale, BUT I'M NOT GOING WELDING I HATE IT:eek: Cheers to everyone:)

Hope it all goes well for you Mick, I'm glad it's not 'The End' but it's a shame that your not going to be able to immerse yourself in something you obviously love doing. All the best mate and good luck for the future.

Damn i always wanted one of your fabulous Bushy's, ever since i saw the yew one you posted on here

I always hoped you would be making them long enough for me to actually buy one (being a student sucks :( ) Maybe on day though eh.

And your damn right i care and i am sure many other people do too, your one of the reasons i have decided to take up knife making myself and if i only become half as good as you are one day, i will be happy.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do next and best of luck with the shoulder too!

Sorry to hear this, and can only agree with what's already been said.

I hope that with some of the pressure off, your shoulder will get a chance to heal properly.

I'm told that hobby making is a very good idea  :D

All the best Mick :beerchug:

I'm sorry to hear you are packing up too Mick. I was lucky enough to acquire one of your fabulous knives a couple of years ago.

Good luck with the pending op and whatever you decide to persue next!

Cheers,
Swyn.
