Hi Stuart
If there's room for one more then I'd like to come along and join in the fun. I'll probably head down Friday afternoon. I've a few bags of firewood in the garage I can bring. I'm in Livingston if anyone want's to car share / needs a lift.
Cheers,
John

Hi folks, phew you turn your back for one minute and the thread takes off. Anyway thanks for answering some questions Tam, i'm very grateful mate.

Okay, so, lets try and get some semblance of order.

The meet is open to everyone, and its not done through, The Four Crows.

As for doing anything, and i know its a big ask, but, is there anybody out there who would like to maybe,do some stuff?. Now i'm not talking about full on teaching or anything, but i was thinking along the lines of, maybe, Knife sharpening, Ferro rod fire lighting methods, simple shelter building, tarpology, erecting hammocks, knots, feather stick carving etc.. anything you feel comfortable with, i am open to suggestions folks.
I myself, am trying to get a few things organized, like i said earlier in this thread, but i obviously cant do all of the above, plus the stuff i have planned. So volunteers would be greatly appreciated. I have a friend coming up from Whitby, who may do some knapping, but this i still have to comfirm. I think it would be great if we could get a few skills shared between us folks.
So please don't be shy, we all know each other more or less. If you wish you can pm me with your thoughts.

Hi Canoedude i'll add you too the list.

Cheers for now.
Stuart.

That sounds good, Stuart. I can't really help with any demonstrations as I'm a beginner, but I'd happily donate. I want to just observe people firelighting and crafting things and ask questions really. Such is the way of the novice. I'll bring along my bushcraft gear, of course. It'd be great if we could go on a walk around the woods to identify flora and fauna as a starter or something so we get comfortable with the surroundings.

Might it be an idea to say something like,
"Saturday morning we'll play with fire.",
"Saturday afternoon we'll have a go with cordage, netting and fishing lines."
"Saturday evening we'll have a go at the ponassing, cooking, etc., could do a bit of foraging beforehand (there's a lot of edible seeds to be parched and winnowed, ground and baked, around just now) followed by the tasting of the home brews  and mellow conversation until the sma' hours. :)
"Sunday morning (best be something mellow  I know you lot!) ............

Not so organised that we feel tethered, but with a kind of focus that lets folks come and play, practice and discuss.

Just an idea.

cheers,
M

What time should we who are coming for the Saturday and Sunday arrive? Even though it's relaxed and not to a tight schedule I don't want to miss any of the skill sharing. A time for starting would be good, say 10 am?

I'll bring my leather working stuff along and a box of scrap leather so folks can have a play?

Orric
That sounds like a great idea, greensurfingbear. I've always wanted to try my hand at leather working.

Edit: I would like to try my hand at flint and steel fire lighting as I've currently only lit fire with my firesteel/ferrorod. Can anyone bring a traditional flint and steel set? I think I'll hang back from bow drill fire lighting for now as I like to work at these things in a linear progression and I consider bow-drill to be the hardest. I'm going firesteel to flint and steel to bow drill. Newest to oldest. Easiest to most difficult. So yes, if I could light my first fire by flint and steel it'd be a great day.

Thoaken, the oldest and most difficult is waiting for lightning to strike your stick.:lmao:Just don't forget the rubber boots and don't stand near me whilst trying it. Bob may be nice and bring along his Huddson Bay firelighting kit. Good steel and flint and works really well.

Hi THOaken, I think that things won't start to get going before 10am as by the time folks get up and get themselves together and have some breakfast, it'll likely be later.

Cheers Stuart.

That I can do. Which reminds me needed to go to the fire starter porn site that is shark designs and order some char cloth.
Will also bring Dragons breath kit made by our own pink fairy John Fenna
