Little piles of sawdust

Anyone know what causes the little piles of sawdust occasionally seen at the base of trees and sides of trails?

Possibly wood ants. have a look for lines of ants around the mound someware.

Seen quite a few of those this evening while out for a walk round Burrator Reservoir


It's the local Hash House Harriers marking their running trails

Spot on Bikething, Hashers it is. Was up in Dartmoor around Burrator a few weekends ago with my own H3 group thought there a quite a few H3 groups round that area. Fantastic way to get into the countryside though strangely enough I've never tried to use the dust (usually sawdust or flour) as tinder material. Sort of goes along with the buhcraft idea of using but not abusing the country.
