Most commercial flensing knives were huge and wide, but for sure the native people used big butcher knives which after some wear looked much like the one here, in size and shape. Lots of First Nations people still use knives that look similar, not because they've seen "Last of the Mohicans", but because such knives were in use in canneries and so that's what they are used to and what was cheaply available.
