Nature's alarm system

Themes covered include: Baseline, Core routines, Sit spot and awareness, different alarm shapes, profiling,....

Dates: October 6–8, 2006
Location: 31595 Steyerberg (Germany)
Tuition: euro 195 plus euro 56 for food and camping in your own tent

Intuitive Tracking and Native Awareness
Native Awareness skills in hunter-gatherer cultures.

In this class, Jon will make us comfortable with the art of tracking, which is the way of life for hunter-gatherer cultures. This art was/is a very important part of their culture, passed on through generations.
By constant practise of reading and interpreting all tracks and sign, native peoples acquired such a high degree of awareness that our Western culture often can only explain their feats by using terms like a "sixth sense" or "spirit tracking".
In this weeklong class, we will cover the origins of these skills, how they interrelate, and how different aspects manifest themselves and can be experienced. To do so, we also purposely leave the world of scientific fact and dive into the realm of instincts - the world of the spirit that moves in and through all things, as Stalking Wolf called it.

Themes covered include: the different areas of the Art of Tracking, Animal forms, Ceremony and dance, Sacred silence and Inner vision, Symptoms of wildness, Manifestations of intuitive tracking...

Jon Young

At the age of ten, Jon Young became Tom Brown Jr.'s first student. The next eight years, he was trained in the same way that Tom was trained by Stalking Wolf.
He spent another ten years working with Ingwe, who was trained likewise by the Akamba in Kenia when he was a boy. Other mentors to Jon were Lakota Elder Gilbert Walking Bull, Tony Ten Fingers, and Jake Swamp, sub-chief of the Mohawk Wolf clan.

Jon has connected these ancient, original teachings and knowledge of native cultures with the tools of modern field research in a truly inspiring and unique way. His "Kamana Naturalist Training Program", has helped many people to connect very deeply with their surroundings. Jon is founder of Wilderness Awareness School and the Shikari Tracking Guild, and currently runs the Nature Awareness Institute in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California with his wife Nicole.
