Never had tick issues... despite living 100 yards from a livestock field. But Knotweed keeps trying to encroach on said field... There's a patch... maybe 15m x 5m... where the stile is that leads to that field. I smash new shoots every year... give it a guzzle of pure glyphosate.. it still comes back. I've slowed/halted progression over the last few years...But its still there. £40 last bottle of pure glyphosate cost. Still half a bottle to go at.

The Japanese knotweed is severely limited by climate here, it spreads out but slowly. Much worse is it's Sakhalin cousin that is bigger and badder and spreads fairly fast. I have fought for 3 years and seem to be winning, no poisons. First I tore out the root system, that is surprisingly large and heavy by the way, after that I have been cutting and tearing the shoots weekly. Last summer I could just do a biweekly round.

If you have goats, they'll eat it until the plant is exhausted and dies. They just keep grazing on any young shoots, so start them as soon as it begins to show. Starve it of it's wee solar panels :)

Donkeys will do so too.

Pigs too. And they will dig up and consume the roots too!

That being said I have a friend who mimicked the grazing and just kept on pulling them up, (it was quite a small patch mind) and after about 3 years the plant was exhausted and didn’t come back.

I strimmed a patch and sprayed it with round up and a pre emergent weed killer and it never came back! It was a dry week after so maybe the weed killer got right into it!
