I've just finished packing for the Scottish meet starting this week and I can't believe the amount of stuff I'm taking.

I keep thinking "I'll limit myself to what I can carry" then I volunteer to do some group cooking so in go the cauldrons and hardware....... Someone asks to see something so in that goes too.....

I know I'll have to demonstrate such and such so in goes the craft gear.....

Ah, we're going to do some archery, better put in the bows and arrows....

I'll need a PFD if everyones got canoes there......I'll try cooking something new......and so on and so on.....

So for a nice relaxing bushcraft weekend I've just had to unpack half the van to get all the gear in........... It's madness but I need it all......

Is it just me?........

Saying nuthin' :o

The thing with the meet ups is that we all take so much stuff just in case we want to show someone something, whether it be kit or craft, & just in we decide to try something else too  None of us really takes all of that gear when we're out and about normally.

I want to do a meet up where we *only* get to take what we can carry in an ordinary pack sometime though.

Cheers,
Toddy

Not Just you,

I'm packing a trangia now as well as my billy can, I'm loathed to do it but I can't guarantee firelighting convenience, then there's the bivvy as well as a hammock, just in case. It's that same old dilema, thing is, everytime I go to purge my kit I end up putting more in!! I can't belive myself, I actually go to my kit with the intention of making it lighter, and end up talking myself into just that one more thing which 'could come in handy'. Kit-sucker-general!

But it's fun messing about in your pack. I find I spend almost more time thinking about and doing the packing than actually being on the weekend!
But.... have a super time anyway.
Swyn. :D

I must be one of the worst. I keep meaning to pack in with what i can carry. But Cameron is coming so I need his kit. Someone wants some leather, so I'll bring that. Someone else might ask how to make a leather thingy, so I'll better pack the leather sewing stuff. Ah yes, someone wants to do flintknapping, so in go the hammer stones, percussion flakers and other flint stuff - and I ain't even started on the woodcraft side yet! I'm going to end up with a full van yet again. I don't know why I'm surprised though - situation normal for me.

Lol.........Yes I would agree with you Eric, I remember helping you carry all that stuff up the hill at chedworth. And then hearing about your van getting stuck, you say it was the mud, but I reckon it was all the gear in it, sinking it.......... :D

don't forget the bandsaw and generators Eric ;)
at least I'm going to be traveling lighter this time. Katy's not coming so i only need my stuff.
I'm aiming to get it all in a 50l rucksack. if it doesn't fit, it's not coming :D
(with the exception of my bow and my chair :))

Well, my plans have changed completely and instead of the usual suspension busting meet load I'll be down to a 45l pack and the canoe gear.
No bows - no target - just the normal overnighter setup.

Hope it's drier than that weekend was there. Soggy gear corner round here.

Wow that's scary. I wouldn't even like to imagine all my gear laid out in one place, where would I stand...... :lmao:

The real question should be: how many of us are grown-up enough to pack without the slightest qualm or quandary ?
I'm booked on a course at the end of the month; and, since I'm driving down, my mind keeps turning to the bells-and-whistles that "I just might need".

Still, it's nice to have the choice; even if it's a difficult one to make. And I will need the boat, though, won't I ? And the TDR packs down so neatly.

Thing is Phil, not so long ago I would have looked at that photo and think, you've forgotten a, b, c, etc almost all the way up to z.

These days I do try and keep the kit list down, especially if I'm having to walk.

Age is a terrible thing :D
