This is still largely the way we teach our children today when they are out of school. My friend in England was horrified when I handed his daughter a sharp knife to cut something. Mine could skin a dog at 5 years old and sharpen the knife afterwards.

Interesting read, so I must be doing somethimng right ;)
(Although I must confess my patience is not what it should be in this case.)

I rather expected my sons to ask questions, and I happily accepted that I was there to patiently answer them to the best of my ability; but I got a rather irritated response from a neighbour when I gave her daughter the same courtesy…."There's no need to answer every question! Just ignore her and she'll go and play. It's very rude to stop what you're doing with another adult (having a blether over a cup of coffee ) to pay more attention to the child! ", and she turned and yelled at her daughter to go and give us peace…..different strokes, different folks I reckon. We did rather grow up in a culture of the child being seen but not heard.
Never quite understood that one; why have children if you don't want them around :dunno:
