I make these out of badger teeth and black walnut wood.

Latest batch is inset with red coral and turquoise beads.

wow.. loads of ideas there guys, thanks very much!! now to decide what to try out first... :) cloak pins are something I have been meaning to try for a while so may start with them :)

can you do heavy duty weight rings? I'm thinking a thick signet ring with a hammered finish in bronze and with initial/s :D

If you happen to make a cloak pin in coppoer or brass, I might have to break the 'no spending until further notice' rule my wife has imposed due to severe financial circumstances.

She will then probably kill me, but I might well die happy.

I'll give it a whirl then and see what you think :) What sort of size would you need?

Seem to have talked myself into a commision, don't I?

Quite like a largish buckle myself, especially for a wool cloak which is quite thick, so perhaps 6-7cm diameter. Kind of fond of the simple, unadorned peasant look.

It's just good to get an idea of what sizes people actually use. I've only ever seen pics, never actually used one myself so wasn't sure what sort of size would be useful. I'll probably have a go at a few designs later.
