I should just add that three of the tradition pubs in my local village have been turned into Indian restaurants. We now have five Indian restaurants and six take-aways in one small village and they are literally no more than three doors away from each other, in some cases, right next door.

I like it when I find places that when I ask for a cup of tea dont reply "what kind of tea?" and offer me a range, including herbal rubbish. I want tea, just a nice normal cup of TEA!

The last real barber in our area retired years ago - so I bought myself some clippers and have done my own hair ever since..."salons" are not for me.....
Kids in Pubs are not my idea of "relaxation" and although I live almost next door to a pub/restaurant I hardly ever go in!
Traditionally pubs were where men escaped from their women and children for a while - now it seems it is where you go to be annoyed by other folks brats!
I have nowt against children but as I refrained from breeding any of my own why should I have to put up with other folks kids?
A well behaved child is fine (several come on our bushy meets and are great) but well behaved kids in pubs are a rarity these days it seems!
Ah well - back to my cave now.....

I suspect the reason all this occured is because parents with small children are the ones who want to be in a pub medicating themselves with beer the most!

There is a superb bakers and couple of excellent butchers. Plus the greatest booze shop in the world that is cheap as chips. Unfortunately the wine shop closed down.

I don't tend to get stressed, I'm a chilled out sort of guy, untill I ask for coffee! I tend to ask for black coffee, then ask them to add milk, I will not use any of the stupid frases they have for it, latte, americano, mocha BOGOFF!!!!!!!

We are a little spoiled in the less urban areas.

Aaah now I had some great beers in your neck of the woods thirty years back

I know the Warren House is still there...but....

The Double Locks?

The Vic?

The George and Dragon at Ebford?

The Bridge Inn in Topsham?

Probably all changed since my day

I have visited all but the George & Dragon. Went to the Warren House and Double Locks last week actually. The Warren House serves a rather tasty sirloin baguette, and a good crumble.

The Vic is very familiar territory. Surprisingly balanced mix of students and locals. Do some cracking food as well.

Bridge I've only patronised once, that was in BCUK company as it happens. Very interesting little place.

Do you know the Old Firehouse by any chance? Not sure if it was a pub back then. Very good selection of local beers and ciders, three floors (candle-lit), excellent pizza.

Nope thats a new one on me - might have changed names since my day though. That said I can remeber the Quay being the hangout of the Sea Scouts and dodgy lockups ....oh and "Tiffanys Night Club" :)

I remember going into an old fashioned pub at lunch time with my wife and her asking what type of coffee they had - the answer was "Black or White" - she hadn't quite seen what style of pub it was!

ah, true values !!

i go to a gentlemens barbers and one of my favorite olde worlde pubs has a huge sign outside that says....ABSOLUTLY NO CHILDREN

i like traditions.
