In praise of tradition......OT

Nope thats a new one on me - might have changed names since my day though. That said I can remeber the Quay being the hangout of the Sea Scouts and dodgy lockups ....oh and "Tiffanys Night Club"

The Quay has changed massively. Most commercial use has gone, it's full of antique shops, pubs, cafes and craft workshops. Plenty of swanky flats around that area too. Tiffany's is still there Oh and the Cricklepit Mill has been restored and conserved complete with new wheels. Sea Scouts are still there I think.

Last time I was in Widdecombe Dartmoor, The Old Inn had changed to a trendy bar, I had to ask if they did food as it looked like a coffee bar.
The place was empty on Saturday, usually it would have been packed.
I went up the hill to Haytor Rocks and had a great time in the pub there.

Well that's my two pence worth.
Moans grumpy old man.

The best Pub in the world is "Bessies" near Newport Pembs - I aint giving more details....those who know it know it ...those who dont ,dont need to!

i go to a gentlemens barbers and one of my favorite olde worlde pubs has a huge sign outside that says....ABSOLUTLY NO CHILDREN

Actually just to be a stickler, if we stick to reeeaaal english tradition, you would not only be allowed to bring your kids into the bar, but get them all a drink to, including the baby!

and your dog could just eat a bone in the corner
i like traditions.

Kids in the familys bar only! where there's a knakerd kerplunk game and the bad pool table, no kids in the snug or the workmans bar. I wish.

My only experience of a proper barber was in Cyprus, when we had a old gent come round our various OP's with his kit. Had my hair cut once by him and that was enough, damn near cut both my ears off while shaving around them with his cut throat.. lol

There was a pub in Beverly. Can't remember the name but it still only just had electricity and that was for the tills.
Gas lights abound and very good beer
Something like the monks head i thinnk Anyone know where i mean?

Hi ,
Now Mild is one of my favourite ales , It's one of the true session drinks ( full deep flavour but 3ish % ) Over the past 20 years I've seen it slowly disappear from nearly all pubs , seen the supermarket availability dwindle and the price increase to the point where it's dearer to buy than premium lager .
Thwaites have now struck a blow against ale snobbery . They simply put it in a bottle and changed the name from " Dark Mild " to " Nutty Black " . Sales have increased by over 90% . Just goes to show a lot of todays Ale snobs don't actually taste what they drink , but instead just like to show off the label .
