Flint doesn't 'dissolve' in water. If it did then flint faced buildings would collapse and they're common enough in parts of a sodden wet UK, and have been since pre-Roman times. It's incredibly enduring. I have excavated flint scrapers that were as razor sharp as they were the day they were lost, and they'd lain in the ground for four or five thousand years.
Flint is often found in chalky areas, and those give 'hard' mineral rich water. It's not the flint that does it though, because that's the sedimentary cryptocrystalline form of quartz. Silicon dioxide....sometimes with inclusions and sometimes formed around a marine mollusc fossil, coral, etc..
The white cortex, the outer layer of chalky type material on a nodule is more porous though, but it's nothing so special as to be worth spending a lot of money on it to purify water. Just buy chalk.....and I have never seen that recommended as a water purifier. It leads to hardening in pipes, kettles, and the like.
Roasted flint is the base source for lime, and that was used for everything from soil management to pottery making, lime mortar and plasters.

On a forum where people routinely spend time out away from tap water, such a topic is both of interest and contentious.
Discussions on how to obtain water, how to purify water, while still trying to travel lightly are fairly common here and on other outdoor forums.
False information, even cut and paste, will be contested.
You did write that you'd taken it from a sales site though, so that's in your favour because the inherent bias is obvious there.

It's funny some of the things that folks have believed purified water, destroyed 'poison', etc.,
I had a huge row with a friend years ago when colloidal silver was suddenly being pushed....and yes, she was not only advocating it and using it but selling it.
Locally there were a few elderly ladies who were 'blue'. The same unhealthy looking grey blue as one sees on the lips of those with failing hearts, but this blue was all over their faces, necks, hands and legs....well those were the only parts a little girl saw. They had ingested too much colloidal silver as teenagers when it was a supposed 'cure-all'. Everything from acne to prevention of TB. Argyria it's called when it builds up in the body.
My friend loudly railed against that, said that it was rubbish and a chemist's fault, and refused to take any responsibility to give a full picture of the stuff she was promoting so loudly.
That I spoke out against it was a fault and we didn't speak for many years. Three rounds of cancer later she now does speak to me, but never of colloidal silver.
Now it's water filtered through activated charcoal....except her activated charcoal comes from a traditional Scandinavian charcoal maker and costs fifty quid a bag. That bag is enough to fill a three foot length of drain pipe she has fastened to her kitchen wall. A jug of water is poured through from the top and caught in another jug at the bottom.....pure rain water of course.
At this rate flint will be the next thing :roll:

Perhaps your friend with the Colloidal silver simply wasn't up to the job of making it. I have a top drawer generator for purpose.
I use it mainly for wounds..it has healed me of sore throats and such..but l do not consume it as kuch as l use it topically.

Pre anti-biotics colloidal silver was a really good thing, but they were well aware of the issues with it.
Nowadays folks promote it claiming every blessed thing for it and refuse to actually do the research not just an internet search.

He’s not the only one with some confusion about flint. I know you have a great deal of knowledge regarding ancient crafts, but lime is not derived from flint, it’s derived from calcium carbonate CaCO3, usually in the form of limestone or chalk. When heated the oxygen molecules break away to form corrosive quicklime. Further heating produces slaked lime for use as mortar and an alkaline to neutralise acidic soils. Here we are on chalk soil and many of the old buildings are constructed of flint and mortar. The chalk quarries still exist, as do some of the kilns for heating it. Flint is only roasted to make it easier to knap, and also as an additive to clay to make harder ceramic (which I just read in your link) Your link is to limestone around Staffordshire, not flint, they are not the same because flint is made of silica which doesn’t contain any calcium at all.

Not quite, heating calcium carbonate produces calcium oxide and carbon dioxide, then reacting with water calcium hydroxide is produced. Historically very important reactions.
Hi, l believe that l mentioned that l have a *Colloidal silver* generator.
I do not create Ionic Silver, which is most likely what you friend was producing, from an inferior Colloidal generator source.
Most likely she also did not establish correct Ppm , or know how to create a superior product, and as a result, the product receives the bad reputation.
Coupled with the possibility that the people that she gave it to, were not directed on its use and consumed far more than necessary.
That is the error from the creator of it, and potentially the customer.
To research, it is wise to look beyond government approval websites that refute it.
The Medical field has multiple positive reports on Colloidal products of all kinds.
Articles featuring published,medical journals are available online.
Not just outlandish, biased reports, which would generalise over the internet, to suit Big Pharma's odious agenda's .
Although, to be balanced, Hospitals, which already use silver in dressings, and such...you will then note that it has a vast efficiency rate in healing.

I do not advocate using just any device to create it... Nor, just buying any form of it from somebody who is not knowledgeable of its necessary properties..including anti fungal, which is invaluable ...
You can even kill fungus on any vegetable plants.
I will use it in my polytunnels on my land.
Also, on myself and my animals, including poultry, in place of any , *anti life* medical, antibiotics.
However, it seems your *friend* is at least open minded to alternative and proven options, as choices for Herself.
I wouldn't scoff at that, personally, especially in these times.
I wouldn't scoff about a friend publicly either.
