Takes me back to when I was a lad nearly 50 years ago! My father was a telephone engineer and we always had a few old telegraph poles delivered in the autumn (never knew if he bought them or if they magically fell off the lorry outside!) and we would cut them with a fair sized double handed saw. Then we'd split them with the axe and then I'd turn a pile into sticks for kindling.

I used to love that cold Sunday once a year!

Nostalgia!! :)

I haven't chopped wood for the fire, nor made kindling etc for a real home fire since I was about 15.

Living mostly with my Grandparents, that was one of my jobs. I haven't lived in a house with a real hearth fire since then.

If I was to swing an axe today I'd probably ache for about a week afterwards. Too used to swinging the lead these days I'm afraid!!

Burn me at the stake, for my heresy. :D

Though I miss it, I'm not volunteering, before you ask.
