Heat treatment

Is there a way to safely heat treat metal without a professional forge?
I wwant to make my own blades but cant afford the £800+ forges that are sold online.
A small home made method for casual use would do.
Ive seen videos of people making home made forges from BBQs and such, can anybody recomend a method?

you can use some bricks to make a hollow square and set some charcoal alight inside, use an old hair dryer for your forced air, or an air bed foot pump taped to a length of pipe.......

jobs a fish for almost nout.....

you could use any receptical to put the charcoal in, metal bucket, biscuit tin anything you have really. its the forced air that turns it into a forge....

like lannyman said...use an old biscuit tin. I get the coals up to temp and force air directly over the blade using the a hairdryer or gym ball foot pump...ive had some quite good results so far and i dont even know what im doing!! cost me nowt and works a treat...winner...
