I was not insulting any one person - just saying what I've seen and heard. You mentioned guys, which I thought are bits of rope for tying tents/tarps and the like up to trees I thought....

Sometimes to a tree, but usually the line you're referring to is the ridge line, not the guy lines. The "guy" lines are usually the ones that go down to stakes in the ground at the sides. Or in the case of a tent, they might go down from the top of the end poles to stakes in the ground.

I'm sure though that my interpretation probably isn't universal either and somebody will be along to correct me.
