Gustavus Adolphus the Great, The Lion of the North, died on this day on battlefield in Lützen, Germany 1632, fighting the Germans (and winning) so I really think the main purpose of the day is to eat the pastries. And perhaps remember the days when Sweden was a Great Power. And then have another pastry...
Some may have read about him in Eric Flints 1632 series of novels. He didn't die in Lützen in those books...
