Just made fruit leather for the first time and thought id share.

in hindsight i should have used grease proof paper and less water in the blend.
I have read that most people sieve the blend but it worked well without.
Its tasty and im happy :)

I've always fancied having a go at this, think I'll have to pillage all the raspberry canes before the birds get them....
How long do you think the fruit leather keeps for??

Thanks folks

Its easy to make
Blend whatever fruit you have, add sugar or honey to taste
you can then simmer the blend to kill any bacteria that are present
Place onto baking trays and leave in a low oven (60 degC) for hours (depending on how thick the leather is)
When the leather is no longer sticky you can remove from baking tray and eat.

I think the leather has been known to last a year, this is my first time so iv not tested that for myself.

xylaria

Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
I have had bilberry frruit leather that lasted at the back of the ciupboard for more than three years.
There is no need to heat to kill bacteria, just dry enough that it doesnt stick to the sheet below it. The silcon or non stick baking sheets make the job easier, just dry it until it loooks like "fruit winders".

I have never had dihydrator , but managed with an oven on lowest setting followed by hot sunny window.
