it's most likely clearance "pro's". If you're doing it for a living, getting rid of stuff is so expensive nowadays. We did an exercise at college the other day where we did an on paper clearance of a typical negelcted garden. We all came to the conclusion that'd it be easier not to quote for the job. That's why so many people give the jobs to the cowboys who just dump up a country lane somewhere, it's so much cheaper.
Don't know what the answer to that is tho...

Many tips don't accept commercial waste, turn up with a van with a name on it and you will be directed to a "pay site" that will cost a bloody fortune. Turn up with a van with no name and everything is fine.

I'm not defending them, but I do understand why they would want to save the money.

To be honest there are lots of things that contribute to this situation.
Councils for expensive tipping, the police for its ' on private land mate', and then the muppets who think its acceptable.

My bro' in law in an unmarked white van took garden rubbish from his mums to a local depot.

A lady there asked where he'd come from,a neighbouring council,so was told to take it elsewhere!

Whereabouts is that dumped Ishmael? If it's reasonably local to me, I've got a Landy and a trailer - if we can sort permissions to drive in with the land owner and somewhere to dump it with the local council then count me in.

I'm not excusing fly tipping at all but as a person that only has a van for work and home use (well I have motorbikes but they don't carry much) it does get right up my nose that anyone can take pretty much whatever they want down to the local council tip in their car but I'm only allowed to take recyclables in there. They don't need a permit.

Oh, actually I am allowed to take stuff there but I need to grovel to the council and get a permit for every single visit.
I can't just finish doing a job on my house and take the stuff I took out down to the tip and I need to phone the council, they ask me to describe the items I'm talking there and then a day or so after I get a permit through the post, one permit allowed per month.

This sort of thing is a disgrace, i took my kids for a walk (a new way id found down to my local beach) down past a stream that runs out to sea and the amount of man made crap that was in the stream the whole walk was terrible, from polly bags and drinks tins to what looked like old sheets etc, i just dont understand the mentality of the people who do this.

Back in the spring I spent a Saturday with a group of people from a conservation group I belong to, clearing an area of woodland adjacent to a large lay-by. All I can say is its amazing, and slightly disturbing what you can find.
The points above about the costs of proper disposal are well made though. Why charge anyone?
P.S. Whilst on holiday in Sweden we were clearing up our local beach, and found a hastily discarded... how can I best describe this without causing offense... long black, rubber erotic entertainment device requiring batteries. Rather than throw it away with the other rubbish I had the brainwave of giving it to my elderly and eccentric, dog owning mother-in-law (who I love and is amazing by the way). Telling her it was a dog toy, she was delighted and took it back to town to throw in the park for her dog. "Fetch Boy!" Caused minor amusement.

This is yet another thing that messes with people's lives ever since councils realised they could go around charging money for things that should be included for free in our income tax & ever increasing council taxes. The main problem with fly tipping is that the people who should be policing it also work for the council & too often the cops have better things to be doing, so it does not get taken seriously as a crime. Nearly every wood I go to that is near a road has garbage in it for the first 50 feet or so.

Exactly why fly tipping will get worse.
Obviously money matters more than the environment to councils.

the issue isn't quite so clearcut as evil local authorities charging for things they shouldn't (tho that is partially true). We live in a throwaway society, if we don't cut down on the amount of things we throw away (or at the very least recycle those things we no longer need) then we will very rapidly become one huge great landfill site. The people who throw the stuff away (or pay someone to do it for them) are the main cause in this, they're the ones creating the problem.
I remember one lot of flytipping we had to clear out when I was vollying for the NT, a whole childs bedroom suite. Clearly the little tyke had outgrown the previous one and mummy and daddy had got a new one in. The old one ended up dumped up a track for us to clear up.

Our local council has decided to allow only one free pick up of larger items per year.Used to be three I think.

Charging for any others.(The freebie might be done away with now,need to check that).

That type of decision doesn't help those with no transport to the tip.It does help a 'friend' who'll do it for the price of some fags (x that per street ) and just dump it.

I DO blame the councils,we pay enough for the services via council tax.
