Evening Primrose - amazing

I just happened to catch one of the evening primrose flowers opening in my garden last night. It was remarkable - like time lapse photography but in real time.

Two of the flower buds had started to split an hour or two previously, and I nipped in the house literally for 10 minutes and when I got out, one of the flowers was fully open.

I got a chair and sat by the plant to watch the other bud and within about 15 minutes, the two parts of the bud casing had folded back, similar in speed to a venus fly trap, and over the next 5-10 minutes the four big petals opened in front of my eyes.

Well worth seeing if you haven't ever done so.

Agreeed!! even mobiles ahve a half decent camera/cam corder. Not seen any evening primrose in ages. I remember the smell though, lovely.

And you can almost set you watch by the time they open each evening. In Denmark they call them "Klocken Otte Blomster" -
"Eight O'clock flowers"
