I came across some elder stems in my shed that i harvested a few months back.
I am going to make them in to hand drill spindles - I am detemined to crack the hand drill this summer!!!
The spindle still has the pith inside it. Does this need to be removed?
If so, is it best to remove the whole lot, or just the last inch or so at the tip?
I have a lime hearth board i am planning on using, is there any easier hearth woods I could use to start with???
cheers all
