i am learning to coil guys

there are two [2] methods

one [1] being a figure of eight
the other being an oval/circle

both start the same and can be coiled both tied or removed from tarps tents and-such

technique one [1]
  1. hold the tail between the thumb and palm
  2. gently wind the guy round your palm
  3. keep each wind next to and not over each other
  4. when you got about a two and a half foot left
  5. gently remove from your hand
  6. clench the coil in your hand leaving an inch or two for next step
  7. start at the part away form you winding the rest over the coil as if to make a noose
  8. when a few inches left push end thru all loops at the top of the second winding and loop it back on itself to create a single knot
  9. then store as necessary

technique two [2]

  1. hold the tail between the thumb and palm
  2. gently wind the guy round your thumb and little or next to little finger
  3. wind next in a figure of eight [8]
  4. when you got about a two and a half foot left
  5. gently remove from your hand
  6. clench the coil in your hand leaving an inch or two for next step
  7. start at the part away form you winding the rest over the coil as if to make a noose
  8. when a few inches left push end thru all loops top of the second winding and loop it back on itself to create a single knot
  9. then store as necessary

both methods are quick and easy and done in seconds

handy tip

if the guys are staying on tarps or tents and-such

start where the guy is tied to the tarp or tent

There's a technique I use on ropes, cables, hosepipes etc. that allows you (like the figure 8) to pull out the line without twists and tangles. That is to do one regular coil or turn then one "twisted" coil so, and repeat. So rather than the exit of the new loop being on the top of the previous loop it is below it. It is sort of like a loop, then half a clove hitch, loop then half a clove hitch, etc. I'm sure that a search "coil rope without twisting" on that website with a lotta videos will clarify.

well done KG
it's a useful technique to know
i use the figure 8 method most of the time. only occasionally (if there's not enough cord length) do i use another method.
