My computer is dying under my fingers.
Often I get start up issues and I think my hard drive is on its way out...
If I do not reply to any PMs or post on forums over the holidays then it will be because I am between machines.
Busy backing up my data now.
Merry Xmas
John

Hope all goes well with the back up Mr Fenna. And that Santa brings you a new machine so we can continue to enjoy your reviews.

Well - I think I am fully backed up now ... it took nearly every stick and disk I have (wiped some manufacturers trade packs from the OTS as well - I will have to beg for some new catalogues now...).
I can now start printing timesheets, mileage logs etc for the care work I do so I can post them in even if I cannot email them!

John, learn the lesson to back up every couple of days. External drives are cheap enough these days, even from the likes of Argos

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1427187.htm There is a lot of free software that will 'mirror' data from one drive to another so there is no need to copy individual files and they will only copy over files that have changed since the last backup.

Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda to you and the family.

I have a "twinned" or "split" hard drive that backs up every day - the issue is that the ************** drive has decided it does not always want to boot so I cannot open the back up either!

John as Rick said get yourself an external drive for backup, also get yourself a linux boot disc. You can normally read and copy most anything on a windows drive from linux, all you have to do is mount the drive.

This comes in handy if the boot sector of the drive becomes corrupt or fails.

Aye well - it will all have to wait until
1 20015
2 I have some money
3 Someone with computer skills can talk me through all this in words of a 57 year old troglodyte can comprehend (and not rip me off like the guy who has already taken £100.00 off me to "fix" the problem!)

I belong to the days of the IBM 360/370, Cobol and Assembler!

Picking up my new laptop and external hard drive tomorrow... the bill will not arrive until 2015 and I have time to save up....
It took 3/4 of an hour to get my current machine to fire up this afternoon...

It's not that bad, just pin all the stuff you normally use to the desk top ,and then get the desk top to come up on start up, like the earlier versions.

I have found that pinning stuff (or nailing it) damages the screen...
Oh - I see what you mean :)
