Dutch Army Bivi Bags- thoughts

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Bought my Dutch Army Bivi bag with zip mod from Kitmonster.co.uk (£55). Kev at Endicotts is snowed under hence alternative source. Arrived this morning and very pleased with it. Nothing to do with kitmonster etc etc.

I recently traded my french bivi bag for a dutch one, took me a bit of messing about finding a zip and get it fitted but I love it.
The fabric is a very close weave, very wind and waterproof, very light and very easy to pack.
I took it on an overnighter in the woods last friday, can't fault it.

.. I bought an 90cm 8mm zip from PointNorth, I tacked the zip where it had to go and then just ran it through the sewing machine, 10 minutes work.

Wasn't that a bit short ? The opening on my bag is about 99cm, the only zips I could find were either too long or too short so I bought 3 metres off a roll.

Guys,

Do you know if this bivy is square bottommed or a mummy type? Hate mummy types as I find them uncomfortable and claustrophobic.

Also looking for a good four season bag that is square - not many around.

I find it to be quite roomy, it's 80cm wide at the shoulders and 70cm wide at the foot, there is a round panel at the bottom which is 42 cm across.
The whole bag is a little over 2.25m long. Your feet won't go all the way to the bottom unless you're seven feet tall :lmao:

I've put my keyboard and a couple of other random items in the pics to give you some idea of scale.
