Was a few years ago but East Ayrshire is decent. There is woodland outside of Patna near Dalmellington. Don't know if it is owned or wild. But there is a forest near the open cast between New Cumnock and Dalmellington which is forestry owned. It borders the Galloway national park so could be a nice place to stay for a few days.
