Based, of course, on radio 4’s Desert Island Discs……

Right…In my best Roy Plomley/Sue Lawley/Kirsty Young (!!??) voice let me welcome you to the program and ask you to choose your Desert Island Kits.

Choose the EIGHT items of kit you would save from your kit bag, or wish were in your kit bag, should your ship sink.

Choose a book. I’m giving you a copy of Bushcraft and a copy of Robinson Crusoe in place of the bible and Shakespeare. (No you can’t burn either!)

Choose a luxury. Same as the program rules, it must be inanimate and of no real practical use.

N.B. Fire kit does not count as one piece of kit tinder, steel, wax etc. are all single items!! So think hard!

Da Da Dada Deeeee, Da Da Dada Deee, Da Da, Dada Daa Daaaaa…. :)

If I'm going to be stuck there:

lots of rum
surfboard
canoe
more rum

and a toothbrush.

If I was gonig to be stuck on a island by myself for the rest of my life I might well have t ogo with Joe Simpson's luxury of enouhg booze to drink himself to a happy death.

after having a conversation about a similar challenge at the moot I was thinking of giving the best answer i ever heard to a item challenge like this the items were a boiler suit and 7 bottles of scotch
( thanks sargie:D ) this challenge means i can add the luxury of a crystal glass to drink it from and an arm chair to sit on.

3. 16m zebra complete with lid and inner bowl.
4. Fire flash.
5. GB wildlife hatchet.
6. Woodlore clone.

1 - Army model firesteel :morpheus:
2 - Saami knife
3 - Large Billy - (would make do with Billy Piper from Doctor Who if I couldn't get a large one :D ) ;)
4 - Hammock
5 - Outwell Tarp :umbrella:
6 - Diamond sharpener
7 - Surf rod, reel and assortment of hooks weights , floats (does that count as one? ........please)
8 - Girl Friday (just for company of course)

Luxury item - Extremely Large crate of Beer (inanimate and of no practical use :beerchug: )

No need for a mozzie net - smudge fire would do the trick - no need for para cord as you'd have an AWFUL lot of time to make cordage :(

Isn't it a bit overkill to use three slots for cutting implements?

Quite right Zammo - a few people seem they'd take several cutting implements - a good strong sharp knife (used properly and with imagination) can be pressed into service for most cutting jobs - wrist thick trees can be sliced in a carving type action through, or hacked in a 'V' and then come at from the other side It'd take time but is perfectly possible. A 9 " Saami is a good all round knife or a machette/parang
