I'm not a good cook... at all. But, I am attempting to become a bit more familiar with the kitchen. That being so, I decided to make us some work food.

The results are... cornbread with cinnamon, nutmeg and chopped nuts, and goat jerky.

I'm not sure it's the most traditional combination, but it's actually pretty good.

Cornbread isn't a staple in the UK as far as I'm aware , so give yourself some Kudos points for doing something different. Are the Goats your own?? i ask as Goat meat at least down my way isn't the easiest thing to get hold of. As Goat has a bit of a reputation for a stronger more mature flavour I'd be interested if you felt this was taste wise , good.?

Errrrr !!!.... recipe please. And bloody well done!!
Cheers, dude.

It's an American recipe, they seem to have different sized cups over there.

2 eggs
1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup flour (I took this to mean plain flour)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup white sugar (I used brown sugar)
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
I added a healthy dose of nutmeg and cinnamon, and a load of chopped peanuts, almonds and walnuts.

Beat eggs, milk and oil together.
Add all dry ingredients to wet and mix well.
Pour mixture into greased cake pan.
Bake 400F for 25-30 minutes

No, our local butcher has a herd (or is it a flock?). I am considering getting some this year though, if possible.

I really like goat, but as you say, it can be quite strong. My partner likes the jerky, but said it definitely tastes of goat. I marinaded it in quite strong flavours, paprika, chinese five spice and mixed spice, which worked well.

I will make a larger batch at some point. I'll let you know when, and if you want some I'll post it down to you.

Erm, Yess please thank you very muchly Sir. < Doffs cap and curtsy's at the sametime >

We had Goats on our small holding when I was wee & little. So as a warning , Goats will happily eat nearly everything.

Couple that with some mad wicked climbing parkour skills and you basically have a 4x4 all terrain quadruped Mr Creosote

Seriously - ours would happily eat laundry off the line and savaged an electric fence.

Goat milk - if you're tempted - is something to looking into , because Goat milk leads to goat cheese and some of those milking breeds can produce a surprising amount.

I have a friend who bought a goat as an impulse purchase, the idea being he wanted to make goats cheese.

What he didn’t do is check the sex of the goat when he bought it from a bloke down the road… yeah, he decided he didn’t fancy trying to milk that one and had to go and buy a female one as well.

Goats are awesome land clearers, and escape artists. Point a goat at a patch of rough ground, and that ground gets a close shave. Show a goat a 6ft fence, and you'll soon realise, the fence was a waste of time. lol. Had 3 of the buggers on the allotments. Never again.
