I have four knives at the mo, all Norwegian factory knives.
Firstly, a Helle Jegermester, which I used to own another before it got nicked with everything else. I loved this knife so much I wasted no time in ordering another. It's big, but slices better than anything I've ever used, including any and all kitchen knives.
Secondly, a Helle Fjellmann. This is a general use knife, similar in design to the various woodlores, bisons, bearclaws, etc that most people have. I daresay I've condemned myself to death by lumping those knives together (I'm not a member of BB and don't want to be

) but there you go. It's quite thick, has a lovely handle, although the sheath is a little loose.
Thirdly, a Brusletto Rognald. Got this one partly because it's a lovely carver and user for delicate work. It's quite thick for such a small blade, and mine at least is tempered very hard - I have (embarrassed look) managed to snap the very tip when carving, which was disappointing

Also the sheath is the worst sheath I have ever used.
Fourthly, and not really a knife, I've a Helle Lappland. This is a Sami knife, or Leuku. It's more to replace an axe than a billhook or parang (you don't get much in the way of thick grasses to cut in Lappland

), and is used with the wrist and forearm. It uses strength rather than weight, which makes you very tired but I think gives you more control. Its application is thus limited by your strength. I am much happier using one than an axe, although I'm a real axe novice.
In the shop, the choice was between the Helle Lappland and Strømeng Leuku. I went for the Helle although it was slightly damaged and had a slightly less well shaped blade as it had a much thicker handle (number one injury source is the blade flying out of sweaty hands, hardly helped by the manufacturers putting varnish on them!), a better quality blade and a battoning plate. Love this knife
