Cherry cup

My latest make - a Cherry wood cup.
I carved it green and slowly dried it.
It was not until the final sanding that it split!
I filled the crack with glue and sawdust (it would not pull back together) and oiled the cup with flaxseed oil.

very nice! good contour on the handle. I have some cherry but was told it splits in front of your eyes.

lovely john and a shame about the crack...i seem to see this happening all the time in threads here and its something thats always put me off even bothering to try in the first place...

I was warned that it would crack ... let's hope the square bowl/plate I am working on fares better...
As to targets Mesquite - I would prefer that you shot my arm again to you shooting this cup!

Very tidy work there mate... shame about the crack, cherry is a bugger for it. I've got some 8" dia cherry logs in the workshop that i harvested for a similar purpose.... that was about 4 years ago, the ends sealed with beeswax, and i still daren't cut into them

Did you carve this or use a lathe?? It looks like you put a lot of effort time and skill into it which ever method you used. Good work.
