Starting with an old mill file, surely a blacksmith could do the hot work for less?
Has to be a blacksmith in my district. . . . . . somewhere!
 
Our crooked knives have a more bent end and the handle is also bent to be more comfortable in the hand.

I make mine from old files. They are easy to bend when heated in fire or with blowlamp and just need retermpering when bent.

They are incredibley safe to use when the end is bent up like in this picture http://www.mooseriverhandcrafts.com/kni-crooked.htm but I don't use them for carving. They are designed for taking wood off long lengths like your two handed draw knife or spokeshave.
