yup, definately noticed a change in the air. Being a small holder I'm always up early and you really notice the difference. The quality of the light is different as well (well, it is when it stops raining and you can see the blue sky). It seems cleaner somehow, and thinner. Not as deeply blue.

All of the fruits are near done up here, the sloes, haws, rowan and apples especially. I usualy expect them to be well behind the blackberrys but all are ready n done.
I too will be better prepared for winter this year with a new door and replacing the odd window or two as last year the whole kitchen froze solid...
Anyways bring it on as i hate bugs and hayfever :)

Yes - I understand exactly what you mean by the smell of autumn. The rowan is beginning to look tired. I love the change of seasons.

Sunny Wales!
Noticed a yellow tinge on the sycamore leaves a few weeks ago locally... Autumn has very much set in since then.

I guess it was a carp summer sunshine wise, but the apple/plum/sloe/rowan ect tree's are all heaving this year! So, its not all bad :)

Had my first handful of ripe blackberrys yesterday. About a month earlier than usual.

The bracken is browning and the chestnut leaves just starting to colour.

I have just spent half an hour watching seven storks slowly assemble in the sky nearby, they circled for about another ten minutes and then set off in a southerly direction. If that was them heading for warmer climes then they are away much earlier then usual.

:)

So are we all having a squint at the preppers forums then ? :)

After last Winter I was glad I kept the pantry well stocked. Especially when the snow half melted, then froze, and then came down again, and again, then thawed a bit, and then snowed some more on top of it all

Rik-UK3 posted a good link to long storage cheap stuff last week.....cost me £27 that did

Southey?

How on earth did you manage to get Scotch Mist in Aldershot?

Our productive season on the farm this year has been noticeably briefer though abundant, redcurrants, strawbs, blackcurrants and rasps all done in now.

I've noticed an Autumnal almost Wintery chill in the mornings too.

Take a look at the Japanese NiJu Sekki or 24 seasons, it quite reasonably defines the changes as seasons come and go.

Aye... We just had a good dumping of snow on most parts of the Country last week but it's well on the way out now... Fortunately it missed the bulk part of early lambing so the price of chops in Tesco is secure:)... It's been very nice the last week with crisp mornings and a lot of sun shine...

Stuff in the garden is kicking into life and I serviced the lawnmower last week...

When you lot are worrying about 'leaves on the line' and chipping ice off the windscreen Summer will be in full swing..
