Hello Kev and everyone else. Been a good while since I've logged on to this site - good to see this thread is still alive Unfortunately, life in general has kept me from here, and most outdoor activities for far too long!

To save me scrolling back through many pages, do we still meet up somewhere? If so when's the next one planned for? Could really do with a sit round a camp fire with a cuppa and a good chat

As per normal..loads of armchair crafters in Cambridgeshire ha ha.
There was a group and a meetup in Cambridge (and still on Facebook) but it fizzled out I believe. The founder is trying to start a school up.
I still get out when I can but rarely overnight even though I am allowed in the 5 acres I have access to in March. If you want to meet up any time over here, give me a shout (goes for anyone reading this) and if you want to bring someone to sleep overnight with you your welcome

Sweet. Anyone else want a meet? Want to keep company for an overnighter? I'm nearly always available for a day meet since retirement has started to set in ha ha.
Any dates anyone suggesting?

I'm in the process of moving house at moment, hopefully that'll happen this month, so anytime Feb onwards, Saturday and/or Sunday, with possibilities of Fridays, is good for me

There's no need for anyone to rush in 'joining in' dates have not even been mentioned yet, and as I have mentioned previously, I won't be able to make it until at least February!

Once I'm free, and have all my kit accessible and in one place we can start looking at dates

I've looked for places to go myself, to practice what I've learnt, but not being from round these parts, it's proven difficult. So, should anyone be going out, even for a day and wouldn't mind a tag-along, I'd like to join you.

Hi dude. Should have one coming round soon in Feb at a 5 acre private wood in March. It will be carry all in and out (although we do have a group fire and just ask no burning rubbish while someone's cooking), Bring everything you need with you (food, water, etc).
The easiest way in is to walk by the woods and then come back after crossing a field access bridge (not jumping the dyke and falling in like someone did last time ha ha)

Hi kev, just about caught this one in time, love to come along,

I've figured out exactly where the woods are, watched the video back, the footpath entrance is fairly obvious on google maps streetview.

I want to leave the car for my family to use, so just figuring out my travel options, walk?, bus?, bike?...the benefits of a quad bike are looking pretty good right now! lol
However I do it I'll come fairly lightweight.

BTW what it shovel recce procedure? thought I'd best ask having not been there before.

over the last few years I've met a few guys in the Peterborough area that would be interested in meets.
I've just been offline concentrating on work, but there are others out there including myself I live near Wisbech (around 10 miles from Kev).

Best to park in Cavalry drive and walk down the footpath. Go by the woods to the field entrance and backtrack up the edge of the field. We will be down the bottom edge away from the old peoples home. Loads to burn but just have a comunial fire.
Any preferred date so we can set it people?

Theres a burnt out car in the ditch next to the woods at present, but halfway along the dyke next to the woods theres a fairly obvious pallet in the dyke to step on, as you cross it.
I had a quick peek in the woods, nice place loads of trees strong enough for hammocks and tarp spots, can't wait to meet you all there.
It's obvious other people have camped there some time ago as there are piles of rubbish in a couple of areas, but otherwise it looks nice, no obvious footpaths, and it's fairly intouched
As Kev says there are many parking places on Cavelry drive, and it seems a nice safe area to leave a car.

Better to walk past the woods and come back up the other side of the dyke after crossing the proper farm gateway. The pallet has been there ages but I reckon the owner might put a trail cam there to catch trespassers (I would)
BTW.. let me know if anyones visiting as the owner (or his watchers) may ring the plod and get your collars felt if I'm not with you or arranged for anyone to go (may also have to dodge the poachers/vermin guys that have been known to shoot there)

Just a quickie (I don't really like rules but we need some guidelines if someone has never been before):

As the Cambs BCUK meets are all just a meet up of like minded individuals and not an organised event, please be aware:

You will need wellies as it will be muddy and you will need to wear appropriate clothing for the weather
Knives and other sharp tools will be used but no one must "borrow" or use any tools without the owners express consent and at the users own risk
All water, food, etc must be carried in by the individual for their own consumption as none are on site
A communal fire may be lit for cooking, boiling water etc, but cooking vessels will not be supplied (bring your own)
All waste must be carried out by the individual
No washing or toilet facilities are, on site
Bring your own cup, bowl, spoon etc as none will be supplied
You must bring your own medical kit/supplies as no one will be identified as a first aider
No public liability insurance has been taken out so you are liable for your own actions
We will be using a private woods, leant to us so please don't vandalise or chop trees down for no reason. All greenwood cutting needs to be kept to a minimum
Keep fire scars to a minimum and we only have a small communal fire for cooking so dress appropriately

Everyone is responsible for themselves and their actions
If under 18's are attending, they must be accompanied by a responsible adult that will be responsible for their welfare and behaviour
Knives and other sharp objects will be used...be careful
No alcohol or drugs are to be used while sharps are being used

If anyone wants to know anything ...ask. We are not holding a teaching weekend, but most people enjoy sharing their knowledge

These are just my thoughts so are not a legal document or anything...use common sense is probably the best idea
