Are there any good bushcraft areas in this county?
Could you possibly list them like this:

Name: [Name of place]
Location: [Where it is in surrey]
Map: [Like Multimap Map, for example]
Website: [If the place has a dedicated website]
Allowed: [What you can do. IE:Can you cut trees, make fires, etc]
Disallowed: [What you can't do]

add anymore that you deem nessecary.

Thanks.

Hi Emdiesse,

I would guess that a lot of people are using private land that they reached an agreement on with a local landowner. Often this restricts who can use the land, and is not normally broadcast as the relationship for the bushcrafter is normally a precious one.

Nevertheless I would be intrigued as to how many replies you get. :)

I'm afraid Topcat02 is probably right Emdiesse, most people will be using private land and will be unwilling to share for fear of losing rights themselves.

Your best bet might be using Scout campsites, you can find the majority of them listed here:

http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/cgi-bin/camping/db.cgi?db=camping&uid=default&view_county=1

Not all of them will allow non-scouting use though so phone up and check first, and do make sure you tell them you're not Scouts otherwise you'll be asked to produce a Scouts camping permit!

Bently Copse in Shere, nr Guildford is good and has quite a bit of woodland, but I'm not sure if they take non-scouting groups.

If you tell them you're after something quiet and wooded then you're less likely to get put next to 50 cubs high on fizzy drinks and brightly coloured sweets!!

Most will allow open fires, some of them only in alter fires though (BBQ style), but some open on the ground. Most of them will get very upset if you chop anything down, so please check first. Wood is usually available either collected from the ground or on a woodpile of pallets (in which case a crow bar is very handy) or saw-mill offcuts.

Most of them will have toilets available, and some have showers - if you're lucky they might even have hot water!

Let us know how you get on.

The only places I know of in surrey are the woods I have permission to use.

I get out in them quite regular for overnighters and such likes, your more than welcome to come along on a weekend if you wish. There's a few of us on this site that use them.
The only stipulation is I have to be there for permission of usage.
