Its great to see everyones faithful friends. I am trying to upload some pics of my dog to share here but how the heck do i upload them?? Tried using imageshack to upload pics aagh. Anyway, my dog is a lurcher she has blue eyes and people are either freaked out by them or love them.. She is the laziest girl who loves the fire and gets chilly at night when camping out so has to have her own keep warm clobber!

Try flickr, when you've uploaded a photo to it, just click share and then copy and past the bbc code.
Here's a more recent one of mine.

Note the grumpy face for taking a picture of him.

Hi Niels,
What sort of dog is Usko? In some pics he looks the size of a bear, in others quite small. Can't figure his breed.
Cheers

He's a finnish Lapphund, and he looks a lot bigger than he is. He's just 45 cm high at the shoulder and weighs about 23 kg. Any size you see is all hair, especcially in winter.:)

Cool, hadn't seen one before and I'd been wondering. After a quick read up seems a good breed. Miss my dog alot but not ready for another yet.

Hi Steve13,
Yup Springers are wonderful, loving and exhuberant dogs. I do find unless the have a strong owner who's prepared to put in a lot of training and keep on top of them that they can become a very demanding dog. They are almost impossible to tire out but they need a lot of mental stimulation otherwise they can develop some odd attention seeking devices. Have you had a dog before? And how much time do you have to devote to it?
Even better do you have a pal with one you could borrow for a few days to see how you get on.
Cheers
GB.

Thanks for the advice.

I have had dogs all my life a few terriers, a lab, a lab / pointer cross but never a springer hence my post

Have been looking at re homing one which I think is my preferred choice at this stage as I work from home so am looking for the company during the day , we live in the country so walks are no problem and have a reasonable sized garden for outdoor play etc

Hi Steve,
I wasn't trying to sound like a downer it's just there's a reason there are specific Spaniel rescue centres, they are smart, and need the time. You've had dogs (with attitude - terriers and labs) seem like you'll be around alot and have a garden, so I'd not worry too much saying give it a go. In our village we've had a few folk who've had to give Spaniels back to the rescue centre as they were just too much.
Good on you for rehoming (my two were that way Wolfhound and Jack Russell Terrorist).
Enjoy your doggie,
GB

this is the dog I want!! I think theyre amazing! And apparently

"Bernese are outdoor dogs at heart, though well-behaved in the house; they need activity and exercise, but do not have a great deal of endurance. They can move with amazing bursts of speed for their size when motivated. If they are sound (no problems with their hips, elbows, or other joints) they enjoy hiking and generally stick close to their people."

Id be interested to know how much you spend on your dogs? Pet Insurance and food included?

I wondered if there was a big difference in what people are spending?

Our dog, which we had for 12.5 years cost roughly £70-£80 pcm.

[He was sick a few times, and had a few operations. Then we had to stand the excess on the insurance and we were paying for his drugs]

I think the cost has put me off getting another dog.

I don't think the Spaniel mentality is too sit about too much, they want to get the head down and find stuff. Maybe a Lab or Alsation ?

My nephew has a GSP and he is an outdoor dog, he has been caravan camping but not tent camping. He doesn't settle till 8ish at night.

Heres my dog, Spud 2yo springer. He's good as gold, very obedient. He loves a bit of camping, especially curled up in front of a fire.

No problem
Our current dog was rehomed , an old Patterdale Terrier cross , now aged nearly 14 and likes to sleep most of the day , my dad has had a few Jacks from rehoming centres and like you say all they need is a bit of care and time

Thanks again for you rhelp

Has anyone on here had any dealings with the Cinnamon Trust? Basically they're a charity which helps the old and infirm to look after their pets so that they don't have to give them up - taking animals to the vet, lots of dog walking and so on.
Anyone who misses walking with a dog but hasn't the time for one themselves might be interested in getting in touch to help out. They are just a google away!

Some lovely looking doggies on this thread, can tell they are all well loved :)
This is my bestest friend, she is a 10 yr old English Springer Spaniel x Working Border Collie :) Very loyal, obedient, will do anything for me, super intellegent too! She loves going camping and curling up next to a fire. She can be a bit nervous at times (thats the collie in her) but the spaniel in her always prevails!! Nice mix of breeds, but needs constant mental stimulation, hard work and dedication to form a well rounded/socialised dog (as do all breeds to be fair), as the border in her could of easily made her into a neurotic mess haha!!
