Got Milly the black lab. Bit surly sometimes but good worker.

Shes 7 so thought I would get a younger dog. So here is Jill the smaller yellow lab who I'm getting next week. Her Dam looks very like Milly. Also saw her big sister who's a year old from the same parents and she was a cracking dog too.

As regards cost foods about 5 pounds per month. I don't have insurance as I just don't think it's value for money especially considering how much it costs for working dogs. If you can afford insurance why not just put a bit of money by every so often and if you don't need it you get it back to put towards your next dog?

Love jumping spaniel photo!

Id be interested to know how much you spend on your dogs? Pet Insurance and food included?

I wondered if there was a big difference in what people are spending?

Our dog, which we had for 12.5 years cost roughly £70-£80 pcm.

[He was sick a few times, and had a few operations. Then we had to stand the excess on the insurance and we were paying for his drugs]

I think the cost has put me off getting another dog.

I had my last dog 13 years (she was already 4 years old when O got her) She was a medium dog, about 65 pounds. I averaged (in today's money) about $8 per month for dogfood the first 9 years and then it doubled when she got older and went on a prescrition dogfood. Her vet bills (I never had insurance) were very cheap. Only the yearly vaccinations at about $80 and after about 8 years of age she had to have Rhymadil for her arthritus at about $$45 per month. And occassionally I'd need to board her at $20 per day while I worked through hurricanes or needed to go out of state for funerals.

The two dogs I have now (one Boxer mix and one Corgi mix) eat about double what I fed the last one and their regular vet appointments are also about double. On the other hand, when I need to board them I get a discount cause they share a kennel so that's only $25 a day for both combined. However the Corgi needed some fairly expensive hip surgery ($750) as a young dog. Now she's also on Rhymadil.

Some real nice photo's here.

I have three myself but only take the youngest out with me...bulldog doesn't like to walk much(does nothing but whine when he is fed up) and will go for anything furry with a pulse no matter how big. Dalmatian loves a good run out but isn't too fond of the dark.

This is derby, my Dorset old tyme bulldog.

We are choosing a new dog soon.

I really like the look of the Lapponian Herder. Beautiful looking dog, and not too big.

No-one breeds em in the UK though. :(
