Weirdly Drilling are common here (or relatively so) - my friends combo suits me best - .243 over 12 - good for everything in Europe. The weirder Veillings like that get tricky on trigger combos alone

Yeah, y'all get a lot more of the classics than we do for sure (he said while drooling) They're fairly rare here. Usually more in collections than actually in use. That said, I wouldn't feel undergunned with that .243 over 12 you mentioned. At least not here in the East. The one pictured would certainly be acceptable over most of the continent.

I can certainly understand how the trigger would be a bit complicated and finicky though. Still.....I'd love to have a play with one.

I think their "home" is Germany - most of the ones I have seen are German. The calibres are usually not normal for UK - 16 bore seems to be the most frequent shotgun and 8x57 and other less usual rifle cartridges.

Fascinating guns - but heavy. I'd still like one though :)

Is it just me or is that engraving a bit OTT?

I think that the fact that they're such relatively rare pieces that are for a specialist market that makers and a lot of owners will want embellishment.

While not to everyone's taste the engraving on guns is an art form in it's self with a long history stemming from arms and armour throughout history.

Personally I tend to like things quite plain-Jane but when you see the prices paid for these things and for guys keenness to embellish his possessions like weapons and cars you can see why many are.
