Any gamers on here?

Yeah... Hence the peasants lol... I know what youre saying though... Take Red dead 2 as an example... COnsole got it first... had it to them selves for a year.. at 30fps... Rated the best game ever..... by consolers, at 30fps.... Hits PC a year after.... 144fps for those with high end rigs... They didn't offer cross platform online mode... because what chance do the 30fps guys get vs the 144? They relased an update for console... several years after release... (when PS5 came out) that gave them 60 fps... now PC has 200+ on a medium rig and consoles are stuck with 60.

Its just so pretty.....A bushcrafters dream of a virtual world

I like both console and PC games to be honest. For RDR2 I enjoyed chilling on the sofa and playing it, enjoying exploring the beautiful world and causing mischief. As my job is being a desk jockey these days, I do value time away from a desk, mouse and keyboard sometimes.

That said, some games (first person shooters especially) require a mouse and keyboard to get full enjoyment. And Civ 6 would be a lot more fiddly only using a controller.

I found Elite: Dangerous on the PC but with an Xbox controller works pretty well, saved me having to buy a dedicated flight stick setup.

Ah, but there's something about using a robust two controller flight stick with each hand at normal positions that adds to the game considerably. I couldn't switch back to a controller now for Elite or MS Flight Sim - especially for helicopter flying :)

The same with car sims, I can't play them without a wheel and pedals.

We did not have enough money to get a good rig for our 12yo last year in his step up from Switch. We got a £800-900 bargain (actually cost a lot more if bought elsewhere or even components and built up). We then got a good keyboard and a high is it CPS mouse. All high performance peripherals. Then we got a higher performance monitor, the best we could afford at the time. Then a second (well he needs a second monitor to hand his social media and tunes while playing. I mean like the gaming is not enough to fully stimulate the little fella.

This all resulted in his friends leaving fortnite one by one as he consistently blew them away in games. They all moved to consoles and games he did not have (and we would not let him due to us being stricter on age rating).

Sometimes there is good is good enough. Our son got obsessed with IIRC cps rates and Hz and so on. He optimised his system in a way we all had no idea about but it worked and together with a natural ability he seemed to be so much better than his mates. Not really worked out as he now no longer plays games. What is the point when none of your mates will play with you and you cannot join them in their games?? So he is now into football, hanging out and riding a FS MTB on a local, unoffical trail jumps!! Resulted in a hole inside his mouth in his cheek, several cuts in his arms and hands, a scrape in his head and a dent / crack in his helmet. I think I prefer it when he was on his PC gaming with mates. Is there a way to slow him down so his mates can compete? Not that they would as they are all about being outside now.

So if you have kids, be careful with speccing of their rigs. Do not give them too much of an advantage. Of course natural talent is one advantage you cannot hobble so easily!! How can these kids see what they have just killed on fortnite? I am watching him play and I see the cloud of items after a kill and I did not see what it was he hit. He is simply playing at double speed to what I can actually see!! I mean how can you hit something that is beyond the game horizon, that is what it looks like to me. He is running and jumping in a direction and after shooting it takes a second or two of fast movement over difficult terrain before he gets the item cloud of a kill in the screen. OR so it seems to me.

'Hell yeah! And I earnt every scar, ache, sprain, grey hair and arthritis by being out there and living.'

Seriously, I'm only early 50s and while the grey hairs and arthritis like have pain is real I do operate at 100mph in thought. ADHD is described as your brain having a Ferrari engine but bicycle brakes.

So I am a fast operator who literally scans everything at once. Which goes to show that my son is on another level. He once beat a pro or perhaps more than one but he's not seeing that as anything much so I only found out when that happened and he showed me the guys social media output. He gets beaten too but he just loved playing until all his mates moved on. No fun when you're on your own for him at least. Being on my own is heaven but everyone is different.

Mind you the final thing that put him off was when he broke his game monitor. He got frustrated because of a game mistake and lashed out. Not played much if at all since

Out of interest what are the Turn based games?
On board game area specifically turn based just means you take one turn at a time, after your turn it notifies the next player.
usually a minimum of one a day, but can be more if everyone has time to check during the day.
Let's people play in different time zones for example.
We just play board games set to turn based as we all do stuff during the day but it's good to check on a break and board game arena tracks your scorers etc.
We play loser picks the next game.
I pick things like wingspan (about birds) forest shuffle and nature related games normally

Since i got medicated for ADHD... I now don't have bicycle brakes, or any brakes. I have a new turbo charger plus a nitrous oxide system that i can activate once per day through a process known as... swallowing an Elvanse.

My son is also very good at gaming. I got him playing with me, and he made me look like an old man, despite being fairly accomplished in the field myself lol.

But i do get your point... Mind fast, body aging. Fast approaching late 40s.... with other stuff on top...Meh.

Always been a fan of Total war and Civilisation games. More total war as i enjoy the real time combat... but i like to take my time and think on the campaign maps.

I've been a gamer since the days of the Spectrum 48k and Commodore Plus 4 (the pre-64 one) and never really stopped. I now have a PC with a graphics card and a Nintendo Switch. These days I only play for about one or two hours per week at most though. I've been playing Zelda BOTW on the original Switch for about seven years and have totaled around 200 hours so far. A few more months and I will have completed it and will be moving onto Zelda TOTK.

Apparently BOTW 2 is even better, and that is high praise given how good the first one is.

My son got BOTW and never really got into it. As good as he was at games he never got past that fire mountain I think he lost interest. I liked it because we did it together. He did the actual gameplay with the controller but I helped him work out what to do. He got it straight after release and was out of interest in it a month later or less.

It really is. I'd guess I'm 80-90% through and it's a joy. The weapon creation system means that breaking a weapon feels like an opportunity rather than a setback. There are lots of little touches all over the place that put a smile on your face.

I love the Zelda games. Link’s Awakening on the Nintendo SNES years ago was brilliant.

I may have posted this link to the Reddit megathread before, it has hundreds of original games for Nintendo and Playstation. I have Super Mario Bros on my iPad.

So much love for Zelda... Not played that since...N64? It's really still a thing? Gonna take me a minute to get my head around that.

Stop buying expensive knives and kit you're not using. Buy a damn PC, which you so obviously need. Switch? ***? i thought i had it all wrong... Feel much better... thanks lol.

Need a new knife?... Buy a mora... wanna play games..... buy a switch... it all makes sense....:p:p:p:p:p

I started trying to play Pioneer last night... not getting very far with it; managed to set up my joystick (Saitek AV8R-01) and managed to take off and fly around the spaceport, but crashed when trying to land.

Not getting even as far as take-off, this morning.

I've not yet found a beginner's guide.

It's pushing my little laptop to its limits.
