Right, we've established that you aren't going to be a skiver, and it sounds like you can more than repay any physical help you might need by sharing knowledge and stories, and especially if you can cook :). I'm not in your part of the world, but it sounds like you'd fit in fine with those that are.

Welcome on board.

Nobody is going to think your skiving. I often find when turning up to meets, the guys who are already in and setup will often pitch up at the car and help you carry stuff in to the woods. You need to pick a meet which will make life simple though in terms of the terrain and distance you might have to cover to get to the site. Rough close is an excellent meet where the pitches are pretty near the dropoff and, being a scout ground, has full toilet and shower facilities. its also flat.

Lets face it once the legwork is done and your set up you can do as little as you like or as much as you can manage. Dont miss out on the experience by letting pride stand in the way. Sitting round the fire shooting the breeze is good for the mind, body and soul.

Totally agree with all Paul has said... and bear in mind as well everyone loves a good camp cook :D

Thanks for that. That's what I had in mind when I asked my question. Some campsites over here are set up with wheelchair accessibility in mind or with facilities for other disabilities. Many with disabilities can get offended when offered help unless asked for. I haven't seen any equipment per se but suspect there might be some types of shelters, etc. that might be easier for certain disabilities than others. I was womdering if that's what the OP was asking about.

I have mates who regularly come out with me and they too cannot tie a knot, lift heavy stuff or capable of hard work.
Neither of them have a valid excuse such as your self rather, incompetence and laziness is their excuse
Welcome to any north Wales meets if its not too far. Would be happy to sort out your kit and help with any of the heavy stuff.

Hi Moorlandhunter, I am a member here and also am disabled, I keep on saying that I am going to go to see some of the guys from the north east but as yet have not been still a great place to spend some time learning and chatting with good friends.

you can get right to the side of the woods at Brockwell,

and the crowd that normally attends i know you'd have no shortage of help,...

dont count me in tho,...i,m normally a tad incapacitated after the first few hours and needing help my self,.

haha ,...seriously tho,..its a real solution to not getting out .,..

keep an eye out for the next meet...

Guys, thinking of putting on the Basic Campcraft Weekend again. It's a vehicle camp just outside of Kirkby Lonsdale so all the above fits in, mid December ish, to be agreed between us. Moorlandhunter, this would be ace for you, your more than welcome. Your views please. Oh yes, my missus wants to come so all SWMBOs are welcome, moorlandhunter, no reason why your lady wife can't come, even if its just a for a brew. Quite excited about this, come on fellas, what do you think.Mary (Toddy), you can get your backside up there aswel lol

My left lung and left arm is paralysed from the shoulder down, so i can understand how knots can be frustrating.
There are alternatives though.

The pain thing is a bit more difficult though.

In colder weather i tend to go slightly overboard with the sleeping bag, as i've found if i'm cold the pain tends to be worse.
Also found it tough to sleep when camping as there are not as many distractions to keep my mind occupied as when i'm in me own bed.
Reading helps, but the best i've found yet is stroking the dog (not a euphemism, actually stroking my dog).

If your anything like me it's a tough balance because if you don't exercise then the pain gradually gets worse, if you do exercise then the pain is bad there and then.

I decided a while back that i'll do whatever i want to do and refuse to allow pain or the knackered arm or lung (left lung is paralysed as well) to hold me back.

It does need a little forethought and a LOT of patience but i've found i can still do 99% of the things i did before, it just takes me a LOT longer with some things like tieing my shoe laces.

Too far for me I fear! :(
Have a good one though and I hope Moorlandhunter gets a good intro to BcUK meets :)
Have fun :)

I qualify on the lazy bit too - but mostly it all stems from - paralysed left side of face, neck probs (from a broken neck) that lead to a form of tennis elbow in both arms, knackered back and knees from a long ago dislocated knee and loads of soft tissue damage plus too many tears working as an outdoor skills instructor and exped leader!
Mainly - old age!
