You're flogging a dead horse dude. If it worked then, it works now. No one is claiming its a long term fix. Only that it is an effective preventative for infection in the shorter term. No amount of google fu will suggest otherwise.

Is it ok to use on deceased equines then?

Yes. Iodine is used to sterilize intact skin in preparation for surgery.

I see what you mean, yes I think you’re right there.

Apparently 1% iodine solution can be used for irrigating high risk wounds (animal bites, open fractures) but it seems for the cleaning of wounds now they suggest saline, or even tap water for irrigation.

In terms of bushcraft/survival, I’d probably still use it in the field if not somewhere that I had access to sterile water for immediate irrigation, in order to reduce the risk of a life threatening infection until I could have it cleaned properly.

The thead was started asking whether it's worth buying iodine. The answer is clearly not.
