An ode to an old friend

My child, my wife, my dogs, my friends,
Are many of my loves,
But one thing added to the list -
My faithful pair of gloves.

You've done me proud for many years,
For DIY and rambles,
You've protected hands from burns and scrapes,
And being scratched by brambles.

But hard work takes it's toll, my friend,
You developed rips and tears,
It's a good job that when I bought you
I bought another three new pairs

So in the bin you went today,
The left and right one too,
(unless I dig you out again
to cut up for something new)
