Another three nighter at Sennybridge with good friend Nigel. A wonderful spot and the weather was kind. A tad of light rain and a mix of sunshine and cloud it was lovely.

Set up the parachute in a 'Yurt' style. This gave headroom and a real helping of usable floor space; easily enough for six folk to sleep in comfort and space for kit in plenty although we in fact slept in the Juno 800.

The evenings were cool to cold, dropping to about 3c which is chilly for this time of the year. The woodburner reduced the amount of wood used dramatically and in fact we used perhaps a third of the wood we normally use on an open fire. The shelter was warm to the point of just needing tee shirts.

Cooking and lighting was via an Optimus Nova, Optimus 111, Honey stove for a morning brew and three hurricane lantern and one Vapalux lantern. Three nights/four days paraffin used was around 2.5 litres.

Thanks for sharing :D and I too like the way you set up the chute....makes the chutes most of us have into a very practical space rather than a draughty cover. Could be usefully anti midged that way too :approve:

Looks like a good weekend out

cheers,
Toddy

As everyone else has said.. a great way of pitching a chute.

I think I'm going to have a look for a wood burner for the winter time

Looks great! Next time you set the chute up, any chance of photos showing the stages ? Cheers :)

I'd appreciate that as well please. It looks like you have a tripod in the centre and 8-10 supports with klingons for the guys.

Its about to be modded again. Nigel is taking out the mesh panels and fitting PU panels instead one of which will be a zipped door. Also fitting a stove jack so the stove can be moved away from the centre of the shelter. A clip on hood will allow the use of one single pole instead of the Mk1 tripod we used this weekend.

The klingon clips are a real bonus, well worth getting for a tarp setup too.

It'll be a few more years before I'm able to say the words 'A Nice Night Out In Sennybridge' ... were you disturbed by bangs and flashes from the training area?

You can hear heavy guns from time to time but its not intrusive or constant; I like the sound, somehow reassuring.

Are you sure that's Sennybridge?

How the *&^$ did you manage to get brilliant sunshine? It was always raining when I was there.

Thanks for sharing, good looking set up that.

Yet again you have done something different with your parachute! Excellent idea to do it that way it certainly beats just hanging it from a tree! Nice job Rik.
Looks like you had a good w/end, I like the look of the food aswell, who was the chef?
