Hi all.

I am looking for a 6" blade camp type knife... what would you recommend?

Khukri? That's what I usually use or my MOD knife both quite reasonably priced and pretty billet proof :)

Being sad and obsessive and too skint to really afford one, I've been researching for about a year on this subject and on balance keep coming back to the Esee 6.

Pro's
(1)lifetime unconditional guarantee, you break it they replace it.
(2)well thought out geometry. full flat grind means it slices well for a 4-5mm thick knife, also a good belly on it. The large handle allows you to choke back for chopping, and using the choil lets you get close up and makes the knife blade light for fine detail work.
(3) Pretty light for the size, certainly when compared to my old MOD. Means it won't chop as well, but if used with a baton it'll do the job
(4) good handle scales and sheath
(5)great heat treat of the 1095 steel, you almost never hear of Esees breaking.

threre's probably more but they're the main points.

Im in looking at ordering from The Knife Connection.com, where with postage I think it works out around £90.00

Other knives I considered are

Fallkniven S1-A1
Swamprat Ratmandu
Survive Knives 5.1-6.1
Kabar Mk1
Cold Steel SRK
Ontario Rat7
Sog Northwest Ranger
Becker BK7

Hope that helps. :)

I'd recommend the MOD survival knife.
It's 7 inches and heavy, but this makes it great at chopping.

I'd 2nd the esee 6, really nice knife. I got the molle sheath back and pouch to screw on the sheath back and you can carry a fire steel, tinder and sharpener all on the sheath. Really nice handle shape too
