Hi all,
I've just brought a 511 shirt and trousers for my camping/bushcraft, they are very well priced at £40 each item, and look like bomb proof material.
Has anyone else used this range of clothing?????
Your thoughts!!

I've got a shirt and trousers from them, they're good kit, it expensive, but good.
I use the shirt for traveling, the chest document pockets are ideal for flight tickets/passports/books etc.

Wore nothing but 5.11 for three months in Afhganistan:

Taclite Pro trousers - much better than the standard canvas - more comfortable and easier to wash
Trainer belt and BDU belt - both work very well, and don't curl
Tactical shirts - sent them home after their first encounter with Camp Bastion laundry. They came back rolled in tightly-creased balls and no amount of ironing would get the creases out. They work very well if you wash them cool or cold and then hang them up on a hanger, but the laundry wash and dry everything at the temperature of magma. They improve with age and washing - I've had some over 5 years and they are now nicely soft.
Tactical polo shirts - excellent
HRT Advance boots - very comfortable and the side zip was very useful when on call
Tac NFO gloves - good fit and hard wearing
Boonie hat - brim needed tailoring to avoid the 'hat, ridiculous' look sported by the US Marines
Muscle mapping t-shirts - comfortable, especially when wearing body armour. Failed to give me the streamlined look I was hoping for.
Rush 24 daysack - excellent bit of kit.

All my kit stood up very well to the environment and being worn and washed often (laundry every other day). 5.11 is very popular with US contractors - if I'd grown a goatee and a beer belly and festooned myself with unnecessary weaponry I'd have fitted right in!

i have the tdu canvas twill pants made from nyco. very hardwearing, very comfortable, and have a baggy but stylish fit/cut to them.
i also have a tactical shirt in khaki. very warm, very heardwearing, very practical, nice fit and style, too.

no complaints from me!

Recommendations don't come any better than that :)

I got one of the Tactical shirts fomr M&M but the Large was like a tent on me so I had to sell it on. I've got a couple of new bits coming from Tamarack though so looking forward to putting them to the test.

Only 5.11 stuff i have are bags a 24 for hammocking and a 12 for day bag, also got a 5,111 bottle holder all bomb proof and as new,i fancy their clothes next im sure there tough but it will be down to the cut of it for me,i like stuff a little roomy

I've got several pairs of the Tactical pants, the BDU pants, the shirt, the 3 in 1 jacket and the Tactical shorts.

All good stuff, hard wearing, well designed and it looks pretty good too. I'm resisting getting more of their stuff - lack of money is helping me in this. :p

I don't think £40 for trousers is that expensive for the quality (although you can get them a bit cheaper than that), a pair of Craghoppers at full price is £35 and they aren't as durable. The Fjallraven brand of trousers, that is well liked on this forum, are about double the price of 5.11s for the cheapest pair.

Thanks for you input's, after having Fjallraven trousers I found that I could not justify spending £70-£90 on a pair of trousers,so I thought the 511's were fairly good price. I have had a different pair of tac 511 trousers and found them bomb proof,so I am looking forward to my couple of day's in the woods this weekend wearing my new 511 kit!!!!

I have a couple of pairs of their tactical trousers in canvas.
Very tough and fit better than Craghoppers which can hang a bit low in the crotch.
A bit too heavy for trekking any great distance with a load in the summer heat though.
They offer a lighter version of their clothing with a different fabric but I don't know about these.
I paid £25 each on offer from these people but a bit more expensive now.

The trousers are tough enough to use on a building site or battle ground but a bit too much for general camping or hiking.
Happy trails...torc.

Happy with my stuff, but having a look at LA Police Gear after recommendations I got a few pairs of theirs on closeout.

Managed to pics up several pairs of 5.11 to - but at $51 shipping you need to buy a few pairs. That said I saved $50 on just one of the pairs of trousers.

I live in Polo shirts though, so my 5.11 shirt doesn't get worn much.

You got ripped off then, should have used Intelligent Armour, they are £34 per pair and you get 10% off this if you use the discount code UKF09

I think that they are well worth a look; i have used them a few times and they are one of the best kit stores in the UK.

A bit of a strong statement. It might have been more polite to mention that they can be purchased more cheaply from Intelligent Armour. I've purchased from this Website too but you have to factor in the postage costs that starts at £4. Even so they do have some keen prices on a range of goods especially if you use the 10% discount code (you need to remember to click the "update" button before continuing to the checkout or it won't register).

I think deals on their stuff turn up from time to time. Following a BCUK tip-off thread I was able to get a 5.11 shirt on-line for about £13 delivered six months ago. Brilliant quality. Wish I'd got two.

I,ve got 5 pairs of them different styles , i wear two of them to work and they are all in the nylon ,they are well made but the cut of them is not too good ,i find them uncomfortable and restricting ,i do a lot of walking and driving ,i find myself having to pull them up all the time .

All I can do is echo what everyone else has said. I have had/got their trousers, polos and shirt. All great kit and does what it says on the tin.
